How Long Will a Power Station Run a CPAP Machine?

The ideal multi-night CPAP camping setup:

Real-World Tips to Extend Runtime

  • Use DC output whenever possible. This is the single biggest efficiency gain. Buy a DC cable for your specific CPAP model.
  • Lower your pressure setting. Lower pressure means the blower motor works less. A drop from 12 cmH2O to 8 cmH2O can cut power draw by 30-40%. Obviously only do this if medically appropriate.
  • Turn off the humidifier. Dropping from 65W to 40W roughly doubles your runtime. Consider using a saline nasal spray instead for moisture.
  • Reduce heated tube temperature. If you need the humidifier, at least lower the heated tube to its minimum setting, or turn it off and route the hose inside your sleeping bag to prevent condensation.
  • Disable auto-start and ramp features. Some features cause brief power spikes that are harmless on wall power but waste battery.
  • Pre-warm the humidifier. Run the humidifier for 5 minutes on wall power before switching to battery. The warm water takes less energy to maintain temperature.
